Brannon Finney knows she's nearly home when she sees the rugged snowcapped peaks of Devils Thumb across Frederick Sound. Soon, she sees old boathouses, fishing boats, wharfs, and bright Norwegian-style residences, and she feels a feeling of success and tranquility. These Alaskan Girls have returned home.

Petersburg, according to Brannon Finney, is a fishing village that suffers when the fishing business falls. Finney notes, "I don't believe there is a single household in Petersburg without some direct connection working in the fishing business." If the fishing industry collapses, the community will perish.
